Erin C — There are many individuals who are admired and have become famous through the use of others’ work, and, disregarding moral qualms, this is definitely the way to go. Bill Gates, for example, could be titled an “idea stealer”, but instead, everyone appreciates his brilliance and significance. If you dug deep into the history of computer software, you’d realize that Apple Computers originally developed the software that allows people to navigate computers efficiently and easily. However, Bill Gates and the Microsoft Company used this information and technology to make extravagant profits. If it wasn’t for Microsoft’s “stealing” of this idea, computers and that technology may not have been so widely distributed among the common man as they are today. There is no doubt that Bill Gates achieved something significant by using the ideas put forward by Apple.
Comments: I love this content example from Erin since it SO demythologizes Bill Gates and pulls no punches in revealing the devious means by which Microsoft pilfered the design of Apple’s user‐friendly interface .
Apple
Krissy L — Another compelling illustration of the importance of creativity in our world today is the success of the technological company Apple, Inc. and its founder, Steve Jobs. Jobs founded the company in the late 1970s, and it has transformed over the last forty years into one of the largest and most successful electronics and technology production companies in the world. Apple, Inc. has created products such as the iPhone, iPod, and Macbook which serve a purpose in education, entertainment, and business. These products are unlike any other in the world of modern technology because they have features beyond that of past computers. Apple’s products are so advanced that other brands can barely compete with their exceptional ideas. Without the creative minds fueling Apple’s production, the company might have failed decades ago and the technology of the present world would be drastically different.
Comments: Nice history and evolution of Apple computer with props to Steve Jobs, much more a pioner and visionary than Bill Gates. Notice how Krissy loads the paragraph with significant detail, including items from the product line. Inclusion of concrete detail (iPhone, iPod, and Macbook) is the mark of a good writer.
Amanda C — Lastly, creativity’s ability to revolutionize the world is seen in the internet phenomenon, Facebook. Created only six years ago by the college student Mark Zuckerburg, the social networking site was once a small idea, overshadowed by the powerful MySpace. Now, Facebook has transcended MySpace in order to become a worldwide internet site with millions of users. Everyday, more and more people are joining Facebook and Facebook vernacular has become a part of everyday conversations. Zuckerberg even said, “How on earth did we stalk our exes, remember our co‐workers birthdays, or bug our friends before Facebook?” Facebook has truly changed the world through its creative content and ideas.
Comments: Superb paragraph on the evolution of Facebook.
